Governance Structure

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Houston Branch is a vibrant professional organization committed to promoting excellence, innovation, and collaboration among Nigerian engineers in the Greater Houston area and beyond. As an extension of the national body, our branch serves as a hub for networking, professional development, and community engagement for engineers of Nigerian descent and allies who share our vision.

Founded on the principles of integrity, technical competence, and service, NSE Houston fosters a strong sense of identity and pride in the engineering profession. We provide platform for members to exchange ideas, mentor emerging talent, and contribute meaningfully to both the local and global engineering landscape.

Governance Structure

The NSE Houston Branch operates under a structured governance model that includes:

The executive members of the branch meet as at when due to discuss and deliberates on the issues of the branch and the international secretariat as required. The Nigerian Society of Engineers, NSE, international president is the Chief Executive and directs the programme and mandate of the society as a whole on behalf the members. The international president is the chairman at every general meeting and meeting of the Council of which the Houston branch chairman is a member.

As one of the branches of the NSE, the Houston branch operates in tandem with the International Secretariat

The Executive Committee (EXCO)

This is the core leadership team responsible for strategic direction, operations, and member engagement.

Key roles include:

  • Chairman – Leads the branch. represents it in official capacities, and oversees all activities.
  • Vice Chairman / Technical Secretary – Supports the chairman and coordinates technical programs and events.
  • General Secretary – Manages communications, records. and administrative duties.
  • Assistant General Secretary Supports the General Secretary in documentation, correspondence, and meeting logistics.
  • Financial Secretary / Treasurer – Oversees financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Publicity Secretary – Handles outreach, publicity, and media relations.
  • Ex-Officio Members – They assist the executive and join them in all their meetings

The General Assembly

  • Composed of all registered members of the branch.
  • Meets quarterly for technical meetings, social gatherings, professional gathering and receives updates from the Executive Committee.

Committees and Subcommittees

  • Formed to handle specific initiatives such as:
  • Technical workshops
  • STEM outreach
  • Community service
  • Professional development
  • These committees report to the Executive Committee and are often chaired by appointed members.

Meetings

  • Executive Committee Meetings: Held monthly to plan and review activities.
  • General Meetings: Held quarterly for all members
